Google AI Mode Ads Reach 10 More Countries: What Changes

On October 28, 2026, Google said it is now showing ads in Search's AI Mode in ten more countries beyond the U.S., with Brazil, Mexico and the U.K. planned for Q4 2026. Existing Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns can appear there without advertisers turning anything on.

What we know

  • New markets: according to a post by Shashi Thakur, VP and GM of Google Search Ads, ads in AI Mode are scaling to Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore.
  • Next up: Google says it plans to add Brazil, Mexico and the U.K. in Q4 2026, without an exact date.
  • Follow-up questions: in the U.S., Google is launching "multiturn" ads that can show on later questions in the same AI Mode conversation.
  • Label: ads carry a "Sponsored" label, per the post.
  • Google's numbers: AI Mode queries are on average three times longer than traditional searches (Google AI Mode Report, U.S., May 2026). Google also says internal U.S. data from August 20 to September 3, 2026 shows similar click-through rates for sponsored and organic product listings inside AI Mode.
  • Which campaigns qualify: the Google Ads help page says existing Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns are automatically eligible. With broad match or AI Max, ads can also match on the context of the conversation (the query and the AI response); exact and phrase match aren't eligible for that contextual matching on broader exploratory questions.
  • No separate opt-out: per the same help page, you can't stop showing in AI Mode without stopping on Search. Your levers are negative keywords and brand exclusions.
  • Same auction, pooled reporting: the help page says these ads use the same auction and cost-per-click model as Search, and their results are included in aggregate in your standard campaign reports; it does not mention a separate breakdown.

What changes and what doesn't

  • If your market isn't listed, nothing new inside AI Mode yet: the help page lists English for these markets. Ads above or below AI Overviews, however, already run in every country where AI Overviews exist.
  • If you advertise in Mexico, Brazil or the U.K.: your campaigns may start showing in AI Mode this quarter with no notice in the account.
  • More competition for the organic click: with ads inside the answer, organic links in AI Mode share space with sponsored products and text.
  • What Google didn't say: any figures on what a click in AI Mode actually costs, or how organic link placement changes.

How to tell if it affects you

  1. Check your campaign locations: if they include any of the ten countries, you may already be showing in AI Mode; if they include Mexico, Brazil or the U.K., plan for this quarter.
  2. Read the search terms report: look for long queries of five words or more and questions starting with "how", "which" or "best". That's where conversational traffic shows up.
  3. Tighten negatives: if you use broad match or AI Max, add negative keywords for conversations you don't want (free, jobs, tutorial).
  4. If you only do SEO: answer your customers' long questions on your site with concrete facts (starting prices, timelines, areas you serve). That is what AI Mode cites, and in some countries it now competes with ads.
  5. Measure what you can: since the Google Ads help page offers no AI Mode breakdown, compare click-through rate and cost per conversion before and after the rollout reaches your market.
