Google updated the filters in the Search Console performance report on October 6, 2026. You can now tick several countries in one filter and see their Google Search traffic added together. Google Search Central announced it on LinkedIn. It matters to any site that gets visits from more than one country.
What we know
- What Google announced: Google Search Central posted on LinkedIn on October 6, 2026 that it is updating the performance report filters to make it easier to analyze traffic across countries and devices.
- The specific change: according to the post, if you operate in multiple countries you can now view their combined Google Search traffic.
- What it looks like: the image in the announcement shows the country filter as a list of checkboxes with three countries ticked at once. It keeps the Filter and Compare tabs and an Apply button.
- Devices: the text mentions devices too, but does not say what changes in that filter. The image only shows the country one.
- How it worked until now: the Search Console help page, read on October 6, still says that to see data for multiple countries or devices "you must use a comparison (limited to two items)".
- What Google did not say: whether every property gets the change on the same day, or whether the API and exports are affected. The help page had not been updated when this article was published.
- Who else covered it: Search Engine Roundtable, also on October 6.
What changes and what doesn't
What changes is how you answer a common question: how much traffic comes from a group of countries. Until now there were two routes. Check each country and add the numbers by hand, or compare two countries at most. Now you tick the countries in the group.
The data does not change. The announcement is about filters: it mentions no new metrics and no extra rows in the tables.
Comparison does not go away either. The image in the announcement keeps the Compare tab, which is still the way to set one country against another.
The caveats on the help page still apply. If you also filter by query or URL, report totals can shift because of data truncation and anonymized queries.
How to use it on your site
- Open the report. In Search Console, go to the performance report for Search results.
- Add the filter. According to Google's help page, you add filters with "+ Add filter" at the top of the report. Choose the country filter.
- Tick your market. Select the countries you treat as one market and apply. For example the United States and Canada, the German-speaking countries, or every country where you ship.
- If you don't see checkboxes yet, wait. Google did not say whether the rollout is gradual. The two-country comparison still works in the meantime.
- Look inside the group. With the filter on, check queries and pages: you will see which searches and URLs bring that market's traffic. Then open the countries table to see how much each one weighs.
- Be careful with average position. Once countries are merged, a single number blends markets where your site ranks high with markets where it barely shows. Drill down by country before drawing conclusions. This is advice from this article, not a warning from Google.
- If your site has two languages, build two groups. One with the countries for each language. That shows whether each language version gets impressions where it should, or whether Google is serving the other version there.
- If you serve a single country, you don't need it. The one-country filter is still the cleanest view for a local business.
